Hanne Hukkelberg - Little Things

Hanne comes from up north, Norway to be exact, and this is her debut lp. Her previous release was the quite promising ep Hoist Anchor. So are the promises fulfilled? In a word, yes. Hanne has managed to create a soothing sound - lullabies sang while sitting on a carpet of ambience created by a vast variety of instruments and strange sounds, like glass glissandos and bicycle squeaks. The cream of the norwegian electronic/jazz scene is also present with musicians from Jaga Jazzist, Kaada - who released a tremendous album some time ago with Patton - Shining, Kiruna and Exploding Plastic doing their best to provide us with stunning perfomances, all parts of a mosaic assembled by Hanne and producer Kare Christoffer Vestrheim.

The voice melodies might remind you the eccentric pop tunes of Bjork, but despite their playful character you can see Hanne standing under the affectionate shadow of the late great singer Nina Simone. A honey-dripping tour through the suburbs of Oslo that leaves you wanting more. It's just the start and we couldn't be more optimistic about her.
